I’m still in the middle of unpacking the garage full of boxes and trying to turn this new house into a home. I decided I’d take a break to write a quick introduction post for the Military Spouse Appreciation Day Blog Hop, which is being hosted by Riding the Roller Coaster and Household 6 Diva. I will post pictures of my new home in the coming days. This is definitely the nicest post housing we’ve ever lived in and I’m dying to show you all my humongous kitchen!!!
Anyway, on to my introduction….
I’m Jennifer and my blog is Sergeant Major Mom. I actually chose the name, because at the time my husband was a First Sergeant and that meant that I outranked him.
My son was also going through a phase where he would say “Yes, Sergeant Major!” every time I asked him to do something. It was cute, but he has unfortunately since grown out of it.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 13 and a half years now. He has been serving in the Army for over 24 years (longer than many soldiers have been alive!!). Since I’m 35, that means that I was 11 when he joined. I did NOT know him then. That would be weird.
We have 5 beautiful children, whom I homeschool (ages 12, 10, 8, 6, and almost 4). They keep me busy.
In what little free time I have, I enjoy taking lots of pictures, blogging,
and doing genealogy. I actually have another blog, devoted solely to my genealogy obsession: Climbing My Family Tree.
In a former life, I served in the Air Force. It was so long ago that sometimes it seems like it didn’t even happen. I am now thoroughly indoctrinated into the Army way of life.
We are currently stationed in sunny El Paso, Texas.
It wasn’t our choice of duty stations, but since it looks like we’re going to be here for a couple more years, I’m going to make the best of it. I’m a firm believer that you can be happy wherever you get stationed if you let yourself be.
I know that Household 6 Diva is heading my way and I’m looking forward to meeting her!! Anyone else out there at Ft. Bliss?
El Paso is actually kind of growing on me. I need to start learning Spanish though, because it drives me crazy that I can’t understand anyone in town.![]()
Thanks for stopping by my little blog. I can’t wait to “meet” you all!! If you want the longer version of who I am, here is my about me page.
Please consider adding me to your reader or liking my page on Facebook.
You can also find me on Pinterest, which I’m addicted to. I know I’m not the only one!

Your commrnt about Spanish made me laugh.
i think Ft Bliss must be a bit like getting stationed overseas!
Jennifer, we are so proud of you. Mom & Dad W.
It is so amazing that you homeschool ALL of your children, I have been contemplating doing so, but it’s overwhelming and I only have 3 kiddos
Nice to meet you!
I love your pictures. They’re ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! Happy MilSpouse Appreciation Day!
Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
It’s so nice to meet you.
I LOVE the picture of your children. What an adorable photo.
I enjoyed Ft. Bliss — but I was 18 and we were only there long enough for my dad to go to SGM Academy and then he went on to Ft. Drum.
Enjoy your new house!
Hallee
Hello from another homeschool mom
Love, love, love your pictures!
Happy MilSpouse Appreciation Day!
Your children are gorgeous!
Happy Mil-spouse Appreciation Day!!
Hi Jennifer!
I’m visiting from the MilSpouse blog hop! Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
How awesome that you homeschool your children! I have often considered it, but being a full-time college student myself and running my own business, I just don’t seem to have the time.. Maybe one day!
It’s very nice to “meet” you!
Hello Jennifer, it is nice to meet you.
Your family is beautiful. 5 children, huh? I don’t know how you do it. I don’t have any, yet. We’re working on that
.
I too love learning about my family history. I went Ellis Island 3 years ago and found my families names. It was an incredible feeling.
I commend you for making the best out of El Paso. We drove through there, twice from Florida to California. We stopped in El Paso the first time, and had our license plants stolen… That was an experience. We didn’t stop there the second time around. We pushed through.
Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day!!
Wow, you sure are a busy lady! Your kids are beautiful…and I love the pic of them lined up from shortest to tallest. Cute. Just wanted to say hello from the bloghop! Looking forward to reading your blog and seeing your pictures!
Hi Jennifer! It’s nice to meet you! I’m here from the bloghop. I’m Laura and am an Air Force wife with a deployed husband. I also homeschool our children. They are 8, almost 6 and 3.
I’m not following you on Twitter and look forward to also reading more on your blog.
Also, I love your photos!
Happy Milspouse Appreciation Day!!

I enjoyed meeting you today! Your blog is so cool & I love that you homeschool! We are going to homeschool, too, when we have children. Yours are beautiful, by the way!
Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
I just love your photography
Hi, Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day to you!
I am a Marine Wife, but I personally knew three Army families that were stationed at Bliss and they all hated it! lol
I sure hope your time there is much better!
Yay for big kitchens!
Oh my goodness: I laughed loudly out loud when you said you didn’t know your husband back then, because it would be weird! I really think I’m going to enjoy getting to know you through your blog now that I’ve met you through the hop! You sound like you have QUITE the personality!
PS: you also have an absolutely gorgeous family!
Sounds like you have some great kids and a busy life, can’t wait to see pictures of your new home. I love seeing what other people do to make military housing home wherever you go, I must admit I also love the chance to change things up and kind of redecorate when we move!
happy milspouse appreciation day and thanks for stopping by
Definitely going to have to check out your geneaology stuff. And we’re not in TX yet but hoping to head to Fort Hood this summer.
Happy MilSpouse Appreciation Day!!
Your photos are gorgeous and what beautiful children! I love your attitude about Ft. Bliss– I think every duty station is what one makes of it.
I also love your blog title. My husband is an officer so I refer to myself as “The General.” He loves it, I’m sure! Nice to “meet” you!
Hi, i’m a new follower! I was homeschooled started at age 12
my hubby was homeschooled until 9th grade! Many congrats to you on your awesomness!
Have a great Mother’s Day
Your children are adorable! I can see how not understanding people would be frustrating. The good news is that Spanish is an easier language than some to learn.
I am finally catching up on the blog hop! Happy Belated Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
Your children are gorgeous and I love your pictures. I hope you’re settling in the new house alright, we just moved last month and there is still always something needing to be fixed!
I am a little late stopping by from the BlogHop. We are stationed in Germany and are really able to dig around in our family history. Happy Belated Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
