I’m used to friends moving away. We’ve been living the Army life for years and years now. It’s not anything new.
But it feels a bit different this time.
Normally, it’s one or two friends at a time. A couple move out. A few new friends move in. It balances itself out.
This time around, I would say that 90% of the people I know here are moving right now. The streets of my neighborhood are literally lined with moving trucks. Everyone is sitting in hotels, waiting for graduation.

And it’s a strange feeling that we’re staying put. We actually just got a shipment from storage, so we’ve been UNpacking while everyone else is packing.
I’ve been so busy in the past week or two – taking pictures of people that are leaving, going to parties, and getting settled into our new home. It’s weird to think that when July comes, I’m not going to have any events to be at or friends to hang out with. It will be quiet.
I would have to say that the ONLY perk to having so many friends moving is the leftovers.
I think I’m going to have enough bug spray, cleaning supplies, light bulbs, batteries, and candles for the next few years.
And, I now have an entire house full of plants, which I absolutely love!!

I know that when we PCS in a year or two or three, I’ll be able to pass on my leftovers and plants to the friends I leave behind.![]()

It’s the same thing in my neighborhood. I’m running out of neighbors I know and getting all mixed up about which house has a person I’ve meet and which house has someone new to meet. But that’s awesome to be enjoying some plants from that! Maybe I’ll get a few too!
Jen,
Helpful hints for you!
I went through this in KS because we stayed the 2nd year..I helpedm organize a street party to welcome all the new neighbors! I also made up plates of baked goods with all of our contact info incase they needed anything!
Miss you
Michelle
Good idea Michelle! You’re right, I could be the head of the welcoming committee!! All of my neighbors will be gone by Friday, but their houses are already starting to fill up!
Ah yes, the leftovers! We have another year up here in Alaska, and no idea where we will be heading next. One of my best friends though, just arrived at Bliss this past week!
That brought a tear to my eye. We have been here at Bliss for a couple months. We left our last duty station after almost 5 years, and it was soooo hard for me. Especially since I had 2 month old twins when we moved. I miss everyone and everything we left behind. And I should mention, we left a lot behind
