I just came back from 2 weeks of vacation in beautiful, green Washington. It was heavenly.

The weather was about 20 degrees cooler than we’re used to and we took full advantage of spending time outdoors. It was so nice to see trees and grass again. And water everywhere!
We managed to make it from near Olympia, WA to El Paso in a mere 36 hours of driving. It’s not that we are such cheapskates that we don’t want to pay for a hotel. It’s just that if we drive for 10 hours and then stop to sleep, the kids end up being WIDE AWAKE in the hotel room and we don’t get any rest anyway. I don’t mind getting a hotel when we’re actually vacationing and going to swim in the pool, watch some TV, and partake in the free breakfast. I don’t like to pay $100 for a few hours of quick sleep before heading back out on the road. So, we switched back and forth (okay, so my husband really did almost all of the driving, but I took over a few times to let him rest.) I’m usually in the passenger seat, armed with my camera, waiting for something cool to take a picture of.
I think I might put together a little slideshow of all of the “road” pictures I took through the bug-splattered windshield on our trip.![]()
I’ll be posting pics from our travels over the next week or so and then I’ll be moving on to more homeschooling posts as we start school next week!!!
