Our Travels: Arches National Park

My husband signed out on leave at midnight and we hit the road to Washington.  It was a good feeling to have El Paso in the rear view mirror and to be out on the open road.  It had been way too long since we’d been on a road trip and we were all itching to get out of here for a while.

The first stop on our travels was Arches National Park.  I was there 2 years ago (you can see the post about that trip here), but Andy wasn’t with me and I decided that he just HAD to see it.  It’s pretty awe-inspiring.

You have to head up a bunch of switchbacks when you first enter the park and you get such a gorgeous view while you’re climbing.

This wasn’t a get-out-of-the-car trip.  We stopped a couple of times, but we mostly went for the drive this time around.  The kids already earned their Junior Ranger badges the last time we were here.  Andy was set on getting to Washington in as little time as possible.  And it was hot out.

Have you ever been to Arches National Park?  Have you done any hiking there?  I think that next time we go, I’ll plan on actually getting out of the car.:)

My favorite of all the parks. Utah has plenty – Capitol Reef is another favorite. For state parks it has to be Dead Horse Point.

Last month we were in Montana and visited Buffalo Jump State Park near Great Falls. I won’t say any more about it, but I found it fascinating. (I think your kids would love it)

We have been to Arches NP. In July also on the way to Washington. Like yours, it was a drive through the park trip only we arrived just as a thunderstorm hit. So it was not hot and we got some fabulous pictures. Would LOVE to go back and do some hiking someday.

We didn’t do Capitol Reef, but we did Zion and Glen Canyon Dam. :)
