I have a black thumb. I admit it. I plant seeds in the backyard and nothing usually comes of them.
In my defense, El Paso isn’t the best place to garden. Unless you’re growing cactus. And I don’t want to eat cactus. I want tomatoes and strawberries and cucumbers.
While visiting my parents this past August, we got to reap the benefits of their hard work in the garden. Tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, onions, beans, celery.
Fresh is definitely best. And when I have the opportunity to start a real garden of my own, I hope that I can get results like this!

Do you have a garden? What do you enjoy growing?

My two favorite things to grow are carrots and beets (for the greens). yum.
Truthfully, I’d love to grow so much more. Space and time are the issue right now.
We have a small garden now, our first. Even with what little it produces, the kids are so excited to harvest, cook and eat stuff from our garden. I can’t wait to have one big enough to be more than just a sort of novelty for them! I want to grow all our own stuff. Or, I want Mark and his green thumb to do it for me.
I sure hope that my sister is living near me when we start ours in Washington. She definitely has a green thumb. Those tomato plants were taller than me!!!
Oh, I have a black thumb, too! I was optimistic about growing things at our current duty station because everyone assured me that with this location, you just put it in the ground and it will grow. FALSE…lol! I’ve killed everything I planted! Poor things!
