This is one of my favorite places to go. It’s a gorgeous trail down to the beach, so you get woods and water.
You need to make sure to check the tide tables before heading down though. When the tide is in, there isn’t any beach at all. The trail ends in water.
But when the tide is completely out, you can actually walk along a narrow spit to the nearby McMicken Island. I made it once, only to rush back, knee-deep in water. I suppose I should try taking a boat one day.![]()
The kids were in search of full sand dollars, but mostly came up with dead crabs and very broken sand dollars.
This guy was stinky…
What is a trip to Washington without a slug sighting? Tori actually touched this slug and wanted to take it home as a pet. Uh, no.
Do you have a favorite “go to” spot when you want to get out in nature?

What a great day out! As a landlocked midwestern girl, I had no idea that people can actually go crab hunting in parks
My little guy is into hunting pine cones right now, so we like to spend time in the woods
You just gave me fond memories of your Grandpa and us kids searching for sand dollars on the beach!
Even though I grew up there, I’ve never actually gone crabbing. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but this island girl doesn’t like seafood.
The kids had a great time hunting for the little crabs though – and trying to talk me into taking them home for pets. Not a chance!!
