House Bunk Beds

Since we got rid of Tori’s bed in August, she hasn’t had a place of her own to lay her head.  She and Lexie were sharing a twin bed, which was a disaster.  A disastrous disaster.  And I don’t like disasters at bedtime.  I like peace and quiet.

Andy promised to make the girls a set of bunk beds since they’re old enough for them now and they save so much space when you’re sharing a room.

I surfed around on the internet and found this set of plans over at Ana White that I thought were perfect.

Andy can’t follow plans though – whether he’s building something or cooking dinner.  It’s one of the many things I love about him.  Whatever he does, he makes it his own.

We were trying to save money and use what wood we already had sitting in the garage, so he built something similar to the above plans, but a bit more simple. I am in love with it!!

What’s not to love??

If you were a little girl, wouldn’t you want to sleep here?

Lexie is up top.  She has a set of steps, lined in stuffed animals.  We finally have a place to put them.

Tori has a couple of windows down below.

There is space below for storage bins.  I’m always glad to have extra storage space and this will make toy clean-up much easier.  The only work we have left is to do some touch up painting, and to put a skirt along the bottom of the bed, to cover up the storage space.  Originally he was going to build wooden drawers (like the plans call for), but honestly we don’t need the weight (we have too much heavy stuff) and we already had these bins, so why spend money on more wood?

I’m happy to report that bedtime is going much more smoothly with the new beds.  Everyone is excited to climb under the covers each night – and that’s what matters most!

I admit that he is pretty amazing!! He built our headboard & footboard, a Lego table for my son, and our dining room table too!! I realize that I’m really lucky. :)
