Our Travels: National WWI Museum

The kids spent the last month studying World War I, so when we went to Kansas I thought that a trip to the National World War I Museum in Kansas City would be a perfect field trip.

It was a beautiful museum, with many artifacts and interactive displays. We even got to take an elevator and then climb up 45 steps to the top of the Liberty Memorial.I think that the kids’ favorite part was the huge computer screen table, with activities and video clips.  Here they are designing propaganda posters. They got to design memorials also.  Once you are finished with the project, you can email it to anyone you want. The view from the Liberty Memorial…One of the paintings in the upper level of the museum. When you enter the museum (and leave) you cross over a glass bridge, with poppies underneath it.

It really was the perfect place to take the kids – the only thing that could have made it better was if Andy had been with us.  He was busy in class that day though.

Have you ever been to the National World War I Museum?  Did you even know that it existed?
