We have always homeschooled the kids. It was a decision we made when I was pregnant with our first.
And although I have my days where I wish that I could drop them off for a few hours at the school down the street, it is a decision which I am glad we made.
They can learn at their own pace. We have extra time to spend together. We can take vacations anytime we want.
They can spend extra time on things they enjoy. They are able to do a lot of “extra-curricular” activities. Homeschooling is definitely a nice fit with the military lifestyle.
If I had to define our schooling style, I would have to say that we are classically eclectic with a touch of Charlotte Mason. We make changes in our school as needed, depending on what is working at the time. That is the beauty of homeschooling. We use living books over textbooks (except for Math and HS Science). I also try to include a lot of hands-on activities to go along with whatever we’re studying.
