My wonderful husband has served in the Army for 24 years now. He entered the military as an E-1 and is now an E-9. I am so proud of his service and proud to be his wife.
We have been married for 14 years and have been stationed in many difference places. We’ve rented, lived on post, and bought 2 different homes along the way. The adventure continues for at least the next 5 years. It’s been a fun ride.![]()
We made it through being a dual military couple for a little while, multiple field exercises and schools and time away from each other, 3 long years of Drill Sergeant duty, 5 even longer years of First Sergeant duty, a year long deployment (and I got left in Alaska), and having 5 beautiful children along the way.
I feel like the fact that I served in the military before getting married helped me be a little more sympathetic to my husband’s life as an NCO. I understand the early mornings, long work hours, stinky uniforms, and midnight phone calls. I am ready and prepared to move when we have to. I try not to get too wound up about the things that I have no control over.
I am human though. I like to have time to prepare myself for the next duty station, to spend holidays together as a family, and to be able to visit family often. It hasn’t always worked out, but we’ve been pretty blessed. Andy was there for the birth of all 5 of our children. That’s more than many Army wives can say.
